"VistA Office EHR"
- Development for the use of the VistA outside the federal government. Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is working with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on a collaborative project to make the benefits of electronic health records available to other providers.
VHA and CMS are collaborating on the development of a
VistA Office EHR, a version of the VA’s VistA system. The project co-managed by CMS and VHA, is also coordinated with other federal agencies, including the Indian Health Service, HRSA, CDC, and FDA. The project is funded by CMS.
The VistA system incorporates electronic medical records and CPOE along with using the data from the information system to obtain data from the pharmacies, laboratories and radiology facilities. The system treats 4 million veterans a year at 128 sites with EMR providing point-of-care data and additionally alerting physicians.
